Description: Scientific Evidence, and a parable for those who do not understand its 21st century implications

A collision with a 6-mile-wide asteroid appears to have changed life on Earth forever. Many scientists agree that an object impacted the Earth just off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula 65 million years ago, forming the 106-mile-wide 6-mile-deep Chicxulub Crater .

Climatologists now conclude that for months after the impact, dense clouds of ash and dust blocked the sun's rays, darkening and chilling Earth to deadly levels for most plants and animals. When the dust finally settled, the greenhouse gases that had been emitted caused atmospheric and oceanic temperatures to rise to deadly levels.

In just a few years, these frigid and sweltering climatic extremes caused the extinction of not just Earth’s dinosaurs, but about 70% of all plants and animals living at the time. The fossil record shows that nothing larger than 20 pounds survived until new life forms emerged millions of years later. All of today’s larger animals appear to have evolved from smaller ones (like mouse-sized mammals, etc.) that were able to live underground on subterranean food after the deadly Earth impact.

The dinosaur-killer asteroid must have been traveling about 20 miles per second - 150 times faster than a modern jet airliner. The impact released more energy that the sum total of all of the thousands of man-made nuclear bombs that are stockpiled around the world today. Imagine them all going off catastrophically at one time in one place.

Pieces of once-molten rock (impact ejecta) around the crater are clear evidence of an explosion powerful enough to instantly melt bedrock and blast it more than 100 miles from its origin. "Shocked quartz" crystals show a distinctive pattern of fracturing that is known to be caused by high-energy impacts, or large nuclear explosions.

The metal iridium (which is similar to platinum), is very rare on Earth's surface, but common in many large asteroids. Geologists have found levels of iridium that are 30 times greater than average in the Cretaceous/Tertiary (KT) geological boundary, which was deposited around the Earth 65 million years ago, at precisely the time of the dinosaur extinction.

USA NASA Near Earth Object Program

The U.S. Congress is concerned that such an Earth impact may happen again in the near future. In 1998, Congress funded NASA’s Near Earth Object Program. So far, NEOP has documented the path of 6600 near Earth asteroids (out of an estimated 100,000 in our solar system). NEOP has labeled 1116 of them as “potentially hazardous” to Earth in the near future.

    In God We Trust

95% of Americans say they believe in some form of God. It says so on our money. Many religious citizens believe that the future of the USA should be based on foundational documents that were created by our Founding Fathers. Thomas Jefferson wrote the July 4th, 1776 Unanimous Declaration of Independence of the USA. The first paragraph states that it is based on: “the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God.” We at Zero Energy Design ® agree. In order to live in harmony with Nature, we MUST study and practice the Universal Laws of Nature.

If you do not agree, you have the freedom of choice to live in another country that does not trust in God, and use a different country’s money.

"First, God created idiots. That was just for practice. Then He created school boards." - Mark Twain

The Christian voting block on the Texas School Board wants to remove Thomas Jefferson from their school books, since Jefferson also wrote the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which ensures separation of church and state. The Texas School Board fundamentalists incorrectly believe that USA was created by Christians, exclusively for Christians. They are virulently ignorant.

About half of Americans still say they do NOT believe in “evolution.” Roughly two-thirds of Americans favor teaching “creationism” (aka “intelligent design”) in the public school curriculum.

Many fundamentalists feel that evolution should NOT be taught in publically-funded school systems. They believe that God created the entire universe in six literal days. The Earth was created first, and then light. They teach their children that the universe is about 6,000 years old. They believe fossils of dinosaurs, the Chicxulub crater, and the geologic layers in the Grand Canyon were placed there by God in a single day, to confound and confuse scientists who believe in the heresy of evolution. They think that humans, dinosaurs, dragons and unicorns all lived on Earth at the same time.

When the Catholic Church persecuted Galileo and Copernicus, the Pope argued that Earth is fixed on its foundation and does not move. Earth was believed to be the center of the universe. The sun and stars must rotate around us. Catholic terrorists preached the fiery fear of God - that any other point of view is heresy which should be punished by death. For centuries, The Evil Inquisition mutilated and murdered many people for their disagreement with deadly double-dumb dogmatic Catholic doctrine, thus breaking God's fundamental commandant to Moses to NOT KILL.

"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Thomas Jefferson was aware of the 1633 Heresy Trial of Galileo. Puritan protestant pilgrim pioneers came to America after leaving their homeland, where the government was intertwined with an EVIL CHURCH-STATE that endorsed killing innocent people who spoke the Truth as they saw it. BUT, the Puritans foolishly brought many of the evil Old World ways with them.

Jefferson knew that in the 1692 Salem Witch Trials, American government courts murdered innocent people for practicing (non-existent) perceived sorcery and magic. It is quite curious to us that when American courts condemned many people to death for practicing witchcraft, why did the accused witches not use their supernatural powers (if they had any) to defend themselves from murderous government tyranny? Were they really NOT witches? If there were any real witches with supernatural powers, could mere mortal humans kill them anyway? It was the 1600's Catholic and American church / state courts that were the worst kind of sinister pure evil, NOT heretics like Galileo or Salem's so-called witches.

Rational thinking and logic seem to have no place among radical-fringe murderous religious zealots to this very day.
Whenever church / state religion says "kill non-believers" it is always the worst kind of evil that violates Nature's Universal Laws.

Thomas Jefferson correctly wanted to ensure that the new USA government did NOT endorse such deadly dogmatic religious fanaticism in 1776. Citizens should NOT be murdered by any form of government for their non-violent religious beliefs. Jefferson’s First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly and unambiguously states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .”

Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association explaining that his First Amendment established a "wall of separation between church and State."

James Madison (Father of the Constitution) wrote that: "Strongly guarded . . . is the separation between religion and government in the Constitution of the United States." There was no controversy about the intention of our Founding Fathers. Madison did NOT forget to mention God in the Constitution. The omission was quite intentional for good reason.

This strong separation of church and state was a unique New World position. It needed to be explained to other nations. George Washington (first president) and John Adams (second president) wrote in the Treaty of Tripoli: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."  This foundational international treaty became the binding law of the new United States.

And yet, there are dishonest, misleading, modern fanatical fundamentalists who preach that America was founded by Christians, exclusively for Christians, and thus, they want to alter history and remove Thomas Jefferson and the mention of the important separation of church and state from their children’s text books, despite his own statement that “the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God” are the foundation for our Declaration of Independence.

There are no necessary evils in a religion that seeks to worship the majesty of the omnipresent timeless Creator of the very fabric of space and time. However, among humans POWER CORRUPTS. Power changes people. Power is addictive. Those in power often give up most of their previous promises in order to retain power.

When the power to govern is given to the leaders of a religion, they tend to impose their unscientific dogmatic doctrine on the masses. When any government uses religion to commit an abomination to God (such as murdering innocent people), then it can become among the worst evils in all of humanity. Thomas Jefferson clearly understood this fact of human nature. The hidden agenda of those who want to purge Jefferson from text books is that they actually want to impose their dogma on the government. In America, this is against the Constitution, since: Absolute Power Corrupt Absolutely.

Gravity is a UNIVERSAL Law of Nature that our timeless Creator set in motion long ago. So far as we know, Gravity has never been violated anywhere in the universe, and it never will be. Anything that may seem to be a violation of Nature's Law of Gravity, is merely a scientific misunderstanding. Birds, hot air balloons, airplanes and rockets do NOT violate Nature's Law of Gravity.

If some day in the future scientists learn how to make an "anti-Gravity" device (as we hope they eventually will do), it will NOT be a violation of Nature's Law of Gravity, but rather a refinement of human scientific understanding of Nature's Laws. Eternal universal laws do not change. Nature's God is not capricious or arbitrary, but man's scientific understanding of Nature is very provisional and constantly changing as new discoveries are made every year. The sun does NOT rotate around the Earth. e = mc2 is not the complete Truth. There is much for us yet to learn about Nature.

Gravity is NOT a religious point of view or a god. We do not pray to Gravity. It would be absurd to ask Nature's God to suspend the Law of Gravity for our own selfish desire - The universe would literally fall apart. Such a prayer is unlikely to ever be granted for any reason. We must learn to live well in HARMONY with Nature (Including Gravity, Environment, and Climate).

Christian's were taught in the Lord's Prayer to ask only that "Thy Will Be Done." It is a powerful prayer designed specifically to align the believer's mind with the immutable Universal Laws of Nature's God. IF we align our thoughts, decisions and actions with the Laws of God's Nature, who can stand for long against us? To do this, we must study and understand Nature.

Our American Declaration of Independence is specifically based on “the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God” NOT on any one religious book, sermon, preacher, pope, or historical spiritual faith-based point of view (of which there are many diverse opinions among humans around the world, even within a single religious denomination).

Our U.S. Constitution and binding man-made American law ENSURES religious freedom, without endorsing any one particular point of view or deadly dogmatic doctrine. ALL faiths are welcome here (and thus they are encouraged), AS LONG AS they adhere to our system of man-made laws and they do NOT teach, preach or practice violence. Evangelism is tolerated, as long as it does NOT impose on other people's Constitutional rights - including freedom of religious beliefs. Government cannot make a law respecting any establishment of religion. State and local governments cannot force a single religious point of view or practice on the students in their public school systems. Atheists cannot prevent the private practice of personal religion.

Some parents lie to their children about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Many modern religious fundamentalists still teach their children that the ancestors of all modern animals were literally on Noah’s Ark, and that sea level rose more than 28,000 feet in only 40 days to cover the tops of all mountains on Earth. BUT, they refuse to believe that the activities of mankind will make sea level rise 6 feet in the 21st century (flooding coastal cities around the world). They use unscientific misinformation to argue that nothing humans do changes Earth’s climate – They recklessly say that Global Warming Climate Change is merely a political hoax. They chant "Drill Baby Drill" and "Mine Baby Mine", which really mean "Burn Baby Burn" and "Kill Babies Kill", thus accelerating 21st century unsustainability and the Suicide of All Humanity.

Many religions believe in a future apocalypse, but that it will not be an instantaneous Earth impact with an asteroid. Some preach that God will protect those who believe, as Noah’s family was saved. Others say that natural disasters are God’s way of punishing an evil non-believing world of heretics. Some evil religious fanatics even teach children that suicidal terrorism will be rewarded in the afterlife. There are many complex issues where no two religious leaders agree, and thus our Founding Fathers did NOT endorse any one point of view, or allow any future law to respect any one religion.

In his famous "We are all Star Stuff" speech, Carl Sagan said:"If we capitulate to superstition or greed or stupidity, we can plunge our world into a darkness deeper than the time between the collapse of Classical civilization and the Italian Renaissance."

Carl Sagan's science fiction book “Contact” was made into a popular movie in 1997. Jodie Foster played Dr. Arroway (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence scientist), and Matthew McConaughey portrayed Palmer Joss (Renowned Christian philosopher). Dr. Arroway said:
“You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe.”

Matthew 13:13,15 - Good News Translation: “The reason I use parables in talking to them is that they look, but do not see, and they listen, but do not hear or understand.” . . . “Their minds are dull and they have stopped up their ears and have closed their eyes. Otherwise, their eyes would see, their ears would hear, their minds would understand” Regardless of your religion, you should be able to recognize this ancient observation about human nature, which is often resistant to unfamiliar new information.

Open Your Eyes, Ears and Mind and Consider This Hypothetical Life Extinction Parable

Suppose that NASA’s Near Earth Object Program discovers a “potentially hazardous” near Earth asteroid that is larger than the one that wiped out the dinosaurs. NASA predicts that it has an 80% chance of impacting the Earth in four years, and that if it misses us then, it will again cross our orbit every two-to-six years, (depending on near-miss influence of solar-system-object gravity fields).

NASA highly recommends a $77 Billion program of four spacecraft to (1) survey the asteroid, (2) make more accurate trajectory calculations, and (3) take direct specific actions to alter its path to avoid a life-extinction collision with Earth. Would it be worth $77 Billion to save all of humanity and set up a proven asteroid defense strategy for our long-term future?

Suppose that Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Senator Jim Inhofe, and Sarah Palin all preach that the potential asteroid impact is nothing but a political hoax to raise money for NASA.

Will we have time to argue partisan politics for many years? NO!
We will need every minute of four years to implement the $77 Billion Earth-salvation program.

Can you see the similarity between this life-extinction hypothetical parable and what is happening TODAY with our
worldwide need to deal immediately with unsustainable, suicidal, man-made global warming deadly climate change?
