Description: “Do not ... keep children to their studies by compulsion, but by play” - Plato
Emerald Eco-City - World's Largest Edutainment Theme Park and Sustainability University

The growing problem of American Dropouts: Every year, approximately 1.2 million U.S. students (7,000 every school day) dropout and do not graduate from high school. Nationwide, less than two thirds of students earn their high school diplomas. We graduate fewer males than females, many of whom wind up in prison.

One high school dropout costs America over six times more than the price of a good high school education. Keeping a criminal in prison can cost taxpayers $50,000 to $100,000 per year. It is NOT just the students that we fail to motivate and inspire who suffer - Our entire nation suffers greatly when a potentially-productive young student drops out. It is FALSE ECONOMY to continue to under fund our declining schools, underpay our best teachers, and tolerate bad teachers who generate dropouts.

The number of USA dropouts is growing, but even if it did not get any worse, our "Dropout Factories" will produce 12 million young uneducated adults that will become a huge, avoidable burden on our economy in the next decade. President Obama proposed significant upgrades to the flawed Bush Administration No Child Left Behind legislation.

If the 1.2 million students who drop out of high school in only one year were to earn a high-school degree, they would contribute an additional $320 Billion in lifetime wages to our economy. Over ten years, high-school dropouts will cost USA OVER $3 TRILLION in lost GDP earning potential. Plus, millions of dropouts will spend much of their life on burdensome welfare roles, or in prison (costing taxpayers up to $100,000 PER CRIMINAL PER YEAR).

Do YOU want our precious next generation to be influenced by hardened criminals in prison? How stupid is that?

The more students drop out, the more criminals, the more crime, the more prison costs, the more hardened criminals become.

Failing to immediately radically reinvent our terrible school system is GENERATIONAL GENOCIDE leading to SOCIAL SUICIDE.

How do we correct the growing U.S. dropout problem?

"The thinking that created today's problems is insufficient to solve them." - Albert Einstein

Status-Quo Bad Education-As-Usual IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE SOLUTION. The arsonist will not help put out the fire.

In 2010, California overcame the oppressive resistance of their non-learning teacher unions, and for the first time passed legislation that allows them to measure the performance of teachers by the progress of their students. This may produce some improvement, BUT, it may also further erode declining U.S. graduation standards.

One-out-of-three American high schools graduate 90% of their students. But about 2,000 high schools (13%) graduate less than 60% of their students. We know exactly where they are, and who is failing to inspire their students, BUT, education-as-usual is killing the future of far-too-many of our precious young people, at a time when we need the best-educated innovators to help us solve our unsustainable, suicidal problems of today.

To compete internationally, American graduates MUST have superior math and scientific skills in the future.

Zero Dropouts - NO General Equivalency Degree (GED) Program Needed or Available in Emerald Eco-City

ALL Emerald Eco-City students (that do not have a serious physical mental disability) WILL graduate from high school on time. There will be NO jobs available for anyone without a high-school diploma, unless they are enrolled in an acceptable education program and making at least a "B" grade average. Better jobs are reserved for students with better grades. (We will find meaningful ways for people with disabilities to happily contribute to our society. They will NOT just vegetate.)

All young people under the age of 21 will be expected to be enrolled in at least a half-time career-training program. - No non-learning deadbeats will be allowed to work or live in Emerald Eco-City.

Business as usual will be: "Lifelong learning in an ever-expanding universe of endless possibilities" TM

We will NOT allow anything that encourages any student to Drop Out for any reason. The ONLY way a young person can avoid getting a valuable education (that contributes to living an abundant life in harmony with Nature) is to leave Emerald Eco-City, (with no invitation from us to return without a good education that meets our minimum requirements).

All of our above mandated education participation will be paid for by Emerald Eco-City operating funds. Students will NOT graduate with burdensome debt. They will be qualified for multiple good Emerald Eco-City jobs with a fair living wage.

Honorably-discharged American veterans who want to further their formal education will be warmly welcomed, and encouraged to share their strengths, dreams and desires with us, to realize their full ecocity leadership potential. We appreciate (and will reward) our veteran's sacrifice on behalf of the liberty of our nation that is indebted to them.

New Emerald Eco-City residents will be on a probationary status - expected to obey our laws and contribute productively.

We need a major paradigm shift, back to concepts that were well-understood long ago

"Life must be lived as play" - Plato 2400 years ago "Play is our brain's favorite way of learning" - Diane Ackerman

The origin of learning by play predates humans. Carnivore animals learn essential behaviors (like hunting and dominance) by playful activity with siblings during their youth. Modern pets learn desired behaviors from their masters through joyful play. When a happy dog wags its tail, it is an animal expression of laughter.

Walt Disney was an inspiring visionary whose wisdom about education and entertainment pervades most of what Zero Energy Design does to this day. We learned that it is not enough that we do wonderful things - We also must communicate them effectively, and build enthusiasm in others. The easiest way to change (bad) behavior is to make learning new things FUN.

We hope we can help others be motivated by Walt’s powerful happy joyful dreams and creative imagination.

Here are a few of our favorite Disney quotes that still stimulate our imagination today. We could easily talk for hours about how any one of these thoughts have influenced our success.

Pick one of these Disney Quotes that stands out to you, and think about it for a day:

“If we can dream it, we can do it.”
Emerald Eco-City fulfills Disney's Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow dream

“All our dreams can come true, IF we have the courage to pursue them.”

“Crowded classrooms and half-day sessions are a tragic waste of our greatest national resource - the minds of our children.”

“Why do we have to grow up? I know more adults who have the children's approach to life. They're people who don't give a hang what the Joneses do. You see them at Disneyland every time you go there. They are not afraid to be delighted with simple pleasures, and they have a degree of contentment with what life has brought - sometimes it isn't much, either.”

“He is richest who is content with the least; for contentment is the wealth of Nature.” - Socrates

“We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun together.”
Emerald Eco-City extends Disney's delightful "edutainment" concept to our entire 24 / 365 lifestyle.

“… most of the people I talked to thought it would be a financial disaster - closed and forgotten within the first year.”

“I could never convince the financiers that Disneyland was feasible, because dreams offer too little collateral.”

“When I started on Disneyland, my wife used to say, ‘But why do you want to build an amusement park? They're so dirty.’
I told her that was just the point - mine wouldn't be.”

“Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.”

“You reach a point where you don't work for money.”

When you no longer have to work for a living, you begin to learn who you are and what you really want to do with your life.
It is very sad that so many people never achieve this
    self actualizationgoal.
Emerald Eco-City will become the most self-
actualized single-source creative problem-solving think tank in the world.

Abraham Maslow described "self actualization" in his article "A Theory of Human Motivation."
Gleitman and Reisberg 2004 and Maslow described the common traits of self-actualized people:

Do these self-actualization characteristics describe you? Do they describe anyone that you know well?

For Goldstein, self-actualization was a motive, and for Maslow, it was a level of development. For both, roughly the same kinds of qualities were expressed: independence, autonomy, a tendency to form deep friendships, a philosophical sense of humor, the ability to laugh at previous mistakes and then begin to correct them, a tendency to resist the outside pressure of status-quo business-as-usual, and a general transcendence of the real-world environment, rather than merely coping with it.

Self actualized people are more motivated by the way things SHOULD be, than by the limitations of yesterday's flawed reality. From my own personal experience, it is much better to be self actualized, than struggling to make a mere subsistence living.

“It gives me great pleasure indeed to see the stubbornness of an incorrigible nonconformist warmly acclaimed.”
    – Albert Einstein

“Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

“I believe in being an innovator.” . . . “I do not like to repeat successes, I like to go on to other things.”

Walt’s 1966 Florida Project Plan for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) : “… will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.”

“It's like the city of tomorrow ought to be. A city that caters to the people as a service function. It will be a planned, controlled community, a showcase for American industry and research, schools, cultural and educational opportunities.”The key is using leading-edge edutainment to realistically demonstrate what is possible, cost-effective, and FUN.

“I'm doing this because I want to do it better

“Believe me, it's the most exciting and challenging assignment we have ever tackled”
(What exciting and challenging assignment have you given yourself?)

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're CURIOUS
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

“When you're curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe
when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely
to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.”
    – Albert Einstein

“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”

“Of all the things I've done, the most vital is coordinating those who work with me and aiming their efforts at a certain goal.”

“Somehow I can't believe there are any heights that can't be scaled by a man who knows the secret of making dreams
    come true
. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C's. They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage,
and Constancy, and the greatest of these is CONFIDENCE. When you believe a thing, believe it all the way,
    implicitly and unquestionably.”

Children should be encouraged to pursue Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy.

Those who want to become leaders of a better tomorrow must inspire Lifelong Learning in an Ever Expanding Universe
    of Endless Possibilities
TM – Dale Hartweg (My research-scientist father)

The mind is NOT a vessel to be filled, but a FIRE to be ignited.” – Plutarch

Rather than forcing facts down the throat of bored spoon-fed children, we must help them
develop their natural playful curiosity into a never-ending thirst for new knowledge.

Scot Osterweil (MIT Education Arcade Project) suggests that there are Four Freedoms of Play:

    (1) Freedom to Explore, Experiment and to be Enriched (internalized self-initiative - a desire for what is perceived to be FUN)

    (2) Freedom to Fail (without serious consequences) - Losing multiple times is part of the progress toward winning

    (3) Freedom to Role Play (and imitate happy, admirable, Role Models) - Adults merely play roles they have learned over time

    (4) Freedom of Effort (children may exert themselves heavily for twenty minutes in a happy chase game)

Why do children build snowmen? It is hard work in uncomfortable conditions.

Why do otherwise-rational adults spend money to climb Mount Everest, where some of them DIE?

"A child loves to play, not because it is easy, but because it is hard" - Dr. Benjamin Spock

“Adults are only kids grown up” - Walt Disney

Knowing "HOW" and "WHY" to work hard at a challenging task begins with the sheer enjoyment of playing hard.

Hard work, aggressive play, and lifelong learning are NOT mutually exclusive.
They are all three aspects of "The Good Life" in Harmony with our Human Nature.

Every education plan, and every working environment, would do well to include the Four Freedoms of Play.

All creative problem-solving innovations are illogical and irrational from a Status Quo perspective. If tomorrow is going to better than the problems humans created today, it must begin with Playful Imagination. Play is NOT a wasteful frivolous luxury - Energetic irrational play time is essential to our very existence.

"The debt we owe to the play of imagination is incalculable." - Carl Jung

Adults who do not understand day dreaming and fanciful PLAY THEORY, have forever lost the ability to solve man-made problems.

In the 1692 Salem Witch Trials, Puritan American courts murdered innocent people for practicing what they perceived to be witchcraft. It was a very-backward non-learning unhealthy new nation.

Today, fanciful fictitious entertainment teaches our children to admire magical-character role models with supernatural powers, from Santa Claus to Superman. Should their creators be condemned for heresy? Should modern mental magic be considered a capital crime, or harmless far-fetched amusement?

"When children pretend, they're using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero." - Fred Rogers

    - - -

Remember Harry Potter: “The wand selects the wizard.” An inert whimsical wand has no inherent power in and of itself.
It can be used like a computer that helps amplify a child’s imagination: . . . A wand focuses the mental magic of the wizard who uses it wisely.

When our fanciful dreams rise above today’s limits of status-quo reality, we multiply the mobility of our mind, and our real-world problem-solving creativity.
Childlike exploration imposes no boundaries on what is, or what is not, possible.

A magician’s wand is an amusing imaginary metaphor. But, too many parents and children have spent far too much money on cheap imported branded plastic toys.

A personally-selected fallen twig can be more valuable to enhance youthful creativity. The knots and wood grain can reflect the character of the one who saw its potential.

Help motivate children to desire to discover unconventional insight about the future. Solving yesterday’s “impossible” problems should be both FUN and profitable for all.

A visionary is not constrained by what once was, or held back by what now is. If you were granted great magical power, how would you make the world better?

Encourage ingenious inspiration to invent what our future really should be.
A mentor can help an apprentice learn to discern which witches’ wands work best.

    - - -

“We are what we imagine. All that we will become begins with our imagination.
With our images we create the world.”
    - Buddha (three millennia ago)

Should we fill our children's minds with images of violence, crime and decline, or a Fun, Prosperous, Emerald Eco-City?

Adults who cannot think beyond the bounds of reality are living a life of unsustainable decline and decay.

We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future. - George Bernard Shaw

"Everybody has accepted by now that change is unavoidable. But that still implies that change is like death and taxes - it should be postponed as long as possible and no change would be vastly preferable - BUT, in a period of upheaval, such as the one we are living in, change is the norm." - Peter Drucker Management Challenges for the 21st Century

"It is a bad plan that admits of no modification." - Publilius Syrus - First Century BCE

"Every generation needs a new revolution." - Thomas Jefferson

An excellent type of job is one where you can earn a good living, doing something that you would pay to do on your vacation. For children to achieve this goal, they must be inspired to get a great education. Living in Emerald Eco-City will be the world's very best place to do that . . . - Better than ANY university or theme park today.

The Fun Theory is a Volkswagen initiative

The Fun Theory website "is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as FUN is the easiest way to change people’s behavior for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better."

We live in a world where the "Lazy Boy" brand name attracts many customers. One third of Americans suffer from the potentially-deadly obesity epidemic, which is the result of poor nutrition and lack of exercise. For those who do not suffer from a physical disability, climbing stairs could be healthier than riding an elevator or escalator. How can stairs be FUN?

Fighting Germs with a FUN Hand Sanitizer

Modern computing technology is doubling its power and cost-effectiveness every 13 months. We are no longer surprised at what next-generation mobile-computing system apps can do. By the time we are ready to occupy Emerald Eco-City, it will be at least five times (5X) better than it is today. We will design all of our systems to anticipate the computing hardware of the future, and be leading-edge state-of-the-art virtually-intelligent FUN Edutainment.

Building on the Yale Fun Theory demonstration, in the Emerald Eco-City 5X world, we will be able to do much more. Imagine Sassy Sanitizers in many crowded places. They could listen for nearby coughs and sneezes. They could be preprogrammed with a hundred-or-more sassy sayings that are selected, and played randomly in response, such as:
"Gazunteit! - We've got your hand sanitizer right here."

When the sassy sanitizer is used it might have many cute, randomly-selected audio rewards, like a video game, or words like "That tickles" or a more formal response, like "Thank you for making our Eco-City healthier."

Everyone in our city will carry a 5X intelligent iPhone-like “Eco-City Positioning System” (EPS). All of our computing systems will know where and who you are. They will be able to personalize their responses (language, nickname, etc.) to all residents and guests.

Now let's go one step further in healthy behavior modification. Suppose we put talking sinks in grade school rest rooms. When a male child steps up to the sink, we could respond in a comforting male adult voice: "Thank you for washing your hands Tommy - You make our school healthier for other kids."

How many parents would vote for that kind of consistent positive behavior reinforcement for their children? The response could even have a personalized opt-in / opt-out, which could be specified by the parents. It could certainly be age appropriate for each individual.

One step further: My wife and I love to dance, but even in nice dance clubs, I have observed that half of the men frequently do NOT wash their hands after using the rest room. (yuck!) My wife has made similar observations.

Just suppose that we put systems in the rest rooms of adults-only nightclubs. You cannot enter the club without an EPS, and a quick biometric thumbprint scan would ensure that you are the device owner. If a man uses a rest room and heads toward the door without washing his hands, a sexy female voice could say for him to hear: "eeeww, don't dance with Jack - He doesn't even wash his hands." Do you think hygiene might quickly improve? After a short period of time, you would almost never hear the system need to speak to the majority. Yea!

Emerald Eco-City 5X Virtually Intelligent Animation (VIA) Friends

Walt Disney began with pen-and-ink animation cartoons. Walt and the Imagineers that he trained then developed computer-controlled "Audio Animatronic" robots that synchronized realistic movement with sound. After Walt's death, robots were developed for EPCOT Future World that interacted with the audience using real-time mouth-movement and puppeteer control.

Following the successful union of Walt Disney Corporation with Pixar animation studios, they created a digital puppetry project called the "Living Character Initiative", which evolved into the interactive "Turtle Talk with Crush" and "Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club."

These shows were a state-of-the-art blend of sophisticated real-time high-resolution computer graphic techniques, image projection, and live, interactive, quick-witted improvisational comedy. The display screen is a large rear-projector that portrays an animated fantasy environment, such as a coral reef for Crush. The individual character images are controlled by a backstage actor / digital puppeteer, whose performance is translated in real time into 3D computer animation.

Movements and voice-activated lip synch are rendered on the fly by high-speed HD computers (similar to video game controllers) and are projected at 60 frames per second, so that the character's mouth moves in synchronization with the unscripted actor's words.

Sophisticated digital puppetry techniques allow the puppeteer's movements to control pre-programmed body motions of the projected character, enabling them to move naturally, do flips at the push of a button, etc., with real-time human control.

This integration of modern digital puppetry technology lets every show be different than any other, as the animated characters respond uniquely to each individual audience interaction. A system of hidden cameras allow the backstage actor to see the audience, and thus refer to the specific appearance, clothing, and behavior of a participant, and their location in the theater. The animated character can point to an audience member to call upon them to begin a conversation.

The actor's performance is a combination of semi-scripted rehearsed banter and improvised responses to the guests' questions and comments, delivered in a mimicry of the character voice from popular Pixar / Disney films.

In the Monster's Inc. Comedy Club, guests with cell phones are invited to submit their own jokes, some of which may be integrated later into the show.

Let's apply 5X thinking and advance these FUN Edutainment concepts forward into Emerald Eco-City.

Two limitations of Disney's Living Character Initiative are that it currently requires (1) a highly-skilled human actor / digital puppeteer, and (2) a lot of expensive equipment in a fixed location.

Only a few years ago, real-time video game animation was low-resolution, flat 2D, and not photo-realistic. High-resolution theater-quality 3D computer generated imagery (CGI - like Star Wars and the Avatar movie) was slow, non-interactive, frame-by-frame generation, and expensive.

With 5X hardware improvements, HD real-time photo-realistic digital puppetry will cost no more than video games do today.

Photo-realistic real-time animation of a fictional character like a talking dolphin is relatively easy to do, because of its smooth skin. The background coral reef setting can be very detailed with a lot of intricate colors, which only need to be rendered one time. Only the moving character needs computing power for real-time 3D rendering, which is getting less expensive each year.

There is much controversy today about capturing large-brain sentient dolphins for display in theme parks like Sea World.

The trainer of the original "Flipper" now feels that this practice should be internationally banned forever. Photo-realistic 5X VIA dolphins can eliminate the need to capture and confine real dolphins, and provide a superior level of FUN Edutainment.

We can now create "Virtual Aquariums" that cost much less and provide better guest interaction than any real aquarium can ever do. They can display natural animal behaviors, or a fantasy world for children to play in without harming wildlife. In our 5X world, it will be very difficult to tell the difference between a huge virtual aquarium, and a real one with confined live animals.

In contrast to animating dolphins, a character like an animated photo-realistic lion, with a mane of fine fur that flows in the breeze, is much more of a real-time rendering challenge than a smooth-skin character. Over time, 5X technology improvements will make animated lions, etc. much more cost-effective and easy to do. For now, Lion-King-level low-resolution interactive animation is easy and inexpensive for entertaining children, but the 5X future will be much better.

Emerald Eco-City "5X Virtual Intelligence Animation" (VIA) will soon be able to replace the actor / digital puppeteer with low-cost hardware plus our proprietary self-learning interactive FUN Edutainment VIA software.

Can You Imagine a child visiting Emerald Eco-City in one of our guest rooms. The child can select from many different humanoid, animal, or fanciful-imaginary VIA characters, with a variety of diverse personalities. Each virtually-intelligent self-learning character can interact with the child in a personalized way - sometimes taking the conversation initiative, and sometimes being controlled by the child's unique answers and curious questions. Over time, the VIA character patiently will get to know and remember the child's background, knowledge level, interests and motivation. The child can ask and learn a lot about what to expect in their Emerald Eco-City theme-park adventure.

Unlike Disney's fixed-location Living Character Initiative, VIA characters can follow residents and guests throughout Emerald Eco-City hand-held-and-wall-mounted video displays, like a ubiquitous friend who likes you and knows you very well - giving advice, guidance, and patiently answering endless questions as you move about. VIA characters will appear to be a seamless integration of intelligent interactivity for non-stop friendly FUN Edutainment. If you want more VAI friends, many different character personalities will be available to select from, and train as you desire. The child can adjust the physical appearance and voice characteristics of every VIA character to be more friendly or foolish if they prefer. Virtual friends can optionally be shared and interact with real friends and family.

Once you customize and get to know and like a VIA character on a HD video display, merely hearing the character's voice and personality through an ear bud will trigger a mental image of your new VIA friend (the same way telephone calls do with real friends today).

If you allow it, VIA characters can share your nickname and some of your personalized profile information with other VIA characters or humans. VIA characters can help your real-and-virtual teachers understand more about you, and tailor the way they present material to you.

When children travel through Disney theme parks, they have the opportunity to meet, shake hands, hug, and have their pictures taken with popular costumed characters, like Mickey Mouse, et. al. BUT, these characters do not speak or know anything about individual children. In Emerald Eco-City, 5X VIA characters can come to life with real-world talking intelligent 3D incarnations.

A costumed human actor or robot can provide the natural body movements. The VIA voice and mechanical mouth articulation can be provided by wireless real-time interactive audio animatronics, connected to the virtual intelligence of the character that knows each child's name and personality profile. A costumed character like Spiderman does not need mouth articulation.

A humanoid character like Cinderella can have a wireless ear bud, so the VIA computers can prompt the actor with each child's name and personal profile information. A similar ear bud prompter can help teachers quickly get to know all of their students.

As you travel around the city, each VIA character / docent could know who you are, and remember your last few conversations.

VIA characters may even follow you home and keep in touch with you around the world VIA the Internet.

Guests planning a trip to Emerald Eco-City could get to know their new VIA character friend(s) before they arrive.

All that we need are inspired creative Imagineers, with the motivation, facilities, and opportunity to pursue endless new dreams. We hope that this 5X experience will challenge many young people to pursue a career in FUN Edutainment for all the world.

Having created 5X Virtual Intelligence Animation development tools, we will be able to sell and teach them around the world. Tomorrow's 5X technology will facilitate endless cost-effective new concepts that very-few creative people can imagine today.

With billions of knowledge-thirsty children in the world today, there are unlimited new FUN Edutainment career opportunities. Why should only Pixar and Disney Imagineers have all the FUN creating our fantastic future. Soon, everyone can participate.

Would you rather have your children drop out of high school and wind up in prison, or work as a FUN Edutainment Imagineer? Our declining-education world needs something to inspire tomorrow's children, MORE than Man on the Moon did in the 1960's.

    Imagination Playground

Walt Disney Company supports innovative PLAY THEORY spaces from KaBOOM! Imagination Playground (see these videos).

This new expanding playground concept emphasizes a highly-creative environment that children can manipulate, with sand, buckets, shovels, and flowing water; props like large unusual building blocks, pulleys, wagons and wheelbarrows; and trained “Play Associates” whose FUN JOB is to ensure a diverse play space for learning how to observe, think, and solve problems.

    Self Motivated Self Learning

Many education resources are now available on the Internet. Anyone can get a complete MIT education for free!
If you do not think you can afford the money to get a degree, you do NOT have to have the sheepskin.
What you DO need is the knowledge, and the ability to apply it pragmatically to solve challenging problems.

My father taught me, and I have taught my children:
"You go to college NOT to learn facts and formulas that you will soon forget, but to Learn How To Learn"

How To Learn: Develop Your: (1) Powers Of Observation, (2) Critical Thinking Skills, and (3) Creative Problem Solving Capacity

"Good science is good observation" - Dr. Max Patel - Avatar (2009)

"Children must be taught HOW to think, not what to think." - Margaret Mead

If your daily life is not FUN, then you need to Learn The 1,2,3 Of How To LEARN and DISCERN

To coin a new edutainment acronym: F.U.N. might stand for Fundamental Understanding of Nature

Abraham Lincoln had no school to attend. He was self-educated by assimilating everything he could read. When he arrived in Washington D.C., Lincoln spent endless hours in the Library of Congress. He greatly enjoyed learning and becoming all that he possibly could be intellectually. For Lincoln, learning was FUN (long before the first edutainment theme park or video game).

Very few people are so wise today. They sadly squat in poop-filled nests, waiting to be fed dirty worms by coo coo birds.

Unlike Lincoln's day, we have nearly-instantaneous access to a broad spectrum of information and diverse viewpoints from around the world on the Internet, BUT we must Learn How To Discern Scientific TRUTH from the ramblings of coo coo birds. The Provable Truth is sometimes hard to find amongst the large volume of popular mediocre-majority virulent ignorance.

What we lack today (in our declining education system) is Observant, Motivated, Creative, Discerning Minds

Successful innovators can point to at least one role-model mentor who inspired their curiosity and FUN in acquiring new knowledge. I am deeply indebted to those who encouraged my endless search for the Truth. Lifelong Learning is a great adventure and a never-ending journey of great joy.

God gave enthusiastic humans a deep-seated desire to explore and discover new macro and micro worlds. The seeker of Scientific Truth is rewarded with knowledge of how to live abundantly in harmony with Nature.

I have encountered MANY struggling 20-year-olds who wish they had not dropped out of school, AFTER the fact. Caregivers MUST help foolish shortsighted young people avoid this catastrophic error, BEFORE it is far too late.

There was a short time in my life when I wanted to skip college and marry my high-school sweetheart. My parents made it very clear to me that education came first, and then marriage. I am quite thankful for this valuable lifelong learning lesson. My first sweetheart turned out to be unfaithful, but my love of learning about the Truth will always be with me forever. Romantic relationships are often based on experience and hormones that change over time, but absolute Truth does not.

"The basic ingredient for a Love Of Learning is the same as for romantic love, or love of country, or of God; passion for a particular subject. Knowledge accompanied by pleasurable emotion stays with us forever." - Pulitzer-prize-winning scientist E.O. Wilson "The Creation - An appeal to save life on Earth"

Teachers who produce dropouts need serious retraining. Supervisors who tolerate bad teachers may need to find another profession. It is long overdue for us to STOP TOLERATING DOCUMENTED DROPOUT FACTORIES.

America's declining public education is becoming a "Cradle-To-Prison System." A high percentage of dropouts wind up in jail, as a very-expensive burden on our society. Of the high school dropouts who do find a job, the average U.S. annual income is only $18K. A high-school graduate averages twice as much - $36K. The average American now makes about $40K. It declined $2,000 as a result of Bush / Cheney policies. In California, it costs $50,000-to-$100,000 per year to incarcerate each convicted criminal. Is that money well spent?

40% of U.S. residents are on some type of welfare program. There is a very-high percentage of people living in government-subsidized housing. Too often, their role models are nearby rich high-school-dropout criminals. A significant number of children from the projects wind up in prison, where they learn from hardened criminals.

40% of Americans are a very-negative burden on society and pay NO income tax at all. The lower one half of U.S. wage earners receive significant benefits, but only pay 3% of federal taxes. The majority of any population is mediocre or below.

The average U.S. college graduate makes $65K per year (3.6 times more than a "lucky" employed high school dropout).

Should USA continue to increase the number of burdensome (criminal) high school dropouts, OR
spend far less to produce an increasing number of highly-productive, motivated college graduates?

Why does our corrupt American government resist doing what is right, instead of what is easy?

The issue is not money alone - It is the mindset of our children's view of Lifelong Learning and their own future potential.

Dropouts MUST learn that they are probably choosing to work hard at low-paying jobs they will NOT like to do, or worse yet, wind up in prison. THAT IS NOT FUN FOR THE CRIMINALS, OR FOR OUR BANKRUPT SOCIETY !

California has at least 38 million residents - Many of them are illegal criminals and burdensome high-school dropouts. Only 144,000 productive people now pay MOST of California's income taxes, which subsidize 37+ million free-loaders.

Should California INCREASE the already-very-high taxes on the productive 0.004 of their population?

Should California motivate and educate their less-productive 99%, so they will contribute and STOP being a burden? It only sounds like a Rational Return on Investment, but it is impossible with "Cut Education Budget" myopic insanity.

In Detroit, only 21.7% graduate from high school in 4 years. Los Angles is a similar city of endless depressed dropouts.

6.5% of all U.S. black male students are in New York state. Only 25% of them graduate on time from high school.

During the hypocritical Bush / Cheney "No Child Left Behind" Administration, graduation rates declined precipitously. The name of the Bush program was good, BUT HIS UNFUNDED EDUCATION POLICIES PROVED TO BE TERRIBLE. What could we expect from the moronic president with the lowest documented I.Q. of any in our nation's history?

We know precisely where our worst school systems are, but we cannot correct them with status quo education-as-usual. Entrenched conservative obstructionists who oppose radical education improvement are killing our country's future potential.

California used to spend 10% of their budget on higher education, making them superior in our nation. Historically, California has attracted more venture capital than all of the rest of the USA together. Recent economic trends, and unfunded federal mandates have essentially bankrupted California, AND new federal legislation is placing new burdens on California that they can NOT pay.

California reduced their higher education budget to only 7.3%. The result has been a huge increase in Cradle-To-Prison. California's PRISON Budget has jumped from 3% to 11%! Where would the money have been better spent: Highly-motivational Zero Dropout Schools, or incarceration of young people, which costs $50,000-to-$100,000 per criminal per year? In stark contrast, excellent education is VERY INEXPENSIVE, but myopic mediocre minds think that education is one of the first things to be reduced during a recession.

Tens of thousands of teachers have been laid off since the beginning of the Bush / Cheney Great Recession. Is it any wonder that California's tax revenue is falling, while their welfare expenses are rapidly increasing?

"There is no greater insight into the future than recognizing ... when we save our children, we save ourselves" ... "We are now at a point where we must educate our children in what no one knew yesterday, and prepare our schools for what no one knows yet" - Margaret Mead

"Lifelong learning in an ever-expanding universe of endless possibilities" TM - Dale Hartweg (My father)

The Foundation for Public Education "Yes We Can" Schott 50-State Report on Black Males and Education says that "All children can learn . . . Yet, the harsh reality is that systemically most states and too many districts don’t provide the necessary, targeted resources or supports for all students’ educational success."

High school graduation rates are one pragmatic way to quantitatively-and-objectively measure the success or failure of individual state-specific education resource allocation priorities. Red flags clearly show corrupt politics that obviously does not work:

Black Male Graduation Rates By State - Red (below 50%) is the worst

Black Male High School Graduation Rates By State

New York is the very worst state. Nearby New Jersey is among the best. WHY ?
The answer is Evil Politics NOT genetics or intellectual potential

Any government that thinks it cannot provide EXCELLENT Education for ALL of its young people cannot afford to survive.

China versus USA Real GDP Growth Since 1990The documentation is crystal clear - As American education quality has rapidly declined, so has our entire nation. We have been running on the past success of the Man-on-the-Moon 1960's, while our classrooms continually decline. America's Gross Domestic Product plummeted during 2008 / 09 recession, while China's schools and GDP rapidly improved.

Some short-sighted U.S. investors foolishly believe that America's 2008 downturn was part of a simple economic cycle. The Truth is our creativity and infrastructure are crumbling, while greedy morons want to eliminate the Dept. of Education.

If the current trends continue, China may soon become the world's best-educated nation, with the most-powerful economy. Does anyone really believe that poorly-educated, non-learning, mediocre Americans are competitive in the world today? General Motors claims that their $7 / hour workers in Mexico are as productive as $70 / hour poorly-educated Detroit workers. Only 21.7% of Detroit high-school students graduate with their class - The worst dropout rate in all of America (and high crime).

Unemployment in America is NOT part of an economic cycle that we can recover from. Old jobs are gone, never to return. Almost all that is left in America is NYC Wall Street banker parasites, who make a billion dollars per year shuffling digital bits, and paying only 15% capital gains tax. When will the rest of America wake up to our serious economic / education decline?

Without intelligent inventors, and a middle class motivated to radically reinvent USA, unemployment will increase long term.

China will soon STOP loaning America huge sums of money for our irresponsible deficit spending (due to better ROI in China). Out-of-work Americans will not be able to afford China's products. China may have the option to foreclose on USA loans.

What value will there then be in the Trillions of dollars that we've invested in unusable M.A.D. weapons of mass destruction? Will we then try to defend ourselves by destroying every human on Earth hundreds of times over? What fools we have become!

“Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children” - Walt Disney

IMAGINE if we could somehow turn the above graduation chart Emerald Green - Approaching Near-Zero Dropouts nationwide. How would we do it? No one else is offering a realistic cost-effective plan. "No Child Left Behind" most certainly was NOT IT !

Just like Energy Independence, many lying politicians have made the promise to improve education, but it is getting WORSE. Now the Tea Party coo coo birds what to reduce taxes for the top 1%, slash education budgets, and lay off teachers. INSANE!

We MUST have a Green Lighthouse to illuminate the practical path - A Compelling Powerful Prototype for all the world to see.

ALL Emerald Eco-City students WILL graduate with a high-school degree that has more pragmatic hands-on knowledge about FUN-and-Valuable Inspired Sustainable Living than is currently available from ANY university around the world today. ALL Emerald Eco-City employees will always be involved in formal citywide inspirational lifelong learning programs.

They will know specifically HOW to live an Emerald Green Life in Harmony With Nature, NOT just talk about it intellectually. Their value in the global marketplace will be very high. They will understand Self-Sustaining SHARED PROSPERITY. Emerald Eco-City graduates will become seeds that will rapidly spread enthusiasm for lifelong learning around the world.

South Korea pays their highly-respected teachers the same as other valuable professionals, including doctors. They are rapidly importing best-and-brightest English-speaking teachers from around the world, while USA lays off teachers.

In stark contrast, American legislators (who care nothing about posterity's future) keep teacher salaries to an absolute minimum, retaining the clueless nation-destroying teachers who de-motivate many dropouts, at a great Red Flag social-and-economic expense to our declining American society. No one can deny this FACT. When stupid people ignore facts, it does NOT make them go away.

Assigning high-priority to $450-Billion taxpayer bailouts of Wall Street CEO's making $20-million / per year, and huge subsidizes to increase importing foreign oil for inefficient SUV's, while American-student dropout rates increase, and many young criminals rapidly go to prison, is nothing less than Nation-Killing Social Suicide.

Futile War In Afghanistan versus U.S. Education Funding

America is spending $104 billion in 2010, and $119 billion in 2011, on our futile ineffective war in Afghanistan - The longest war in United States history. There are now only about 50 al Qaeda operatives left in Afghanistan - Costing us $2 billion per year each. Most al Qaeda are now hiding in Pakistan.

The Afghanistan Gross Domestic Product (purchasing power parity) is only $25 billion (less than $1,000 USD per year per capita) - Mostly from opium - the heroin poppy. Opium revenue provides large funding to the Afghan Taliban war lords, while the rest of the nation is in extreme poverty (the second worst in the world). Many of the richest criminal Afghans are living in wealthy Dubai. Our American soldiers pass poppy fields every day and do nothing. Afghanistan heroin enters the U.S. illegally in large volume, killing many foolish drug addicts. Heroin is much more deadly than cocaine. Heroin is also the main ingredient in deadly American prescription drugs like OxyContin, etc.

70% of Afghans are illiterate - cannot read or write any language. Their government is very corrupt. They have made it clear that when Americans leave, they plan to turn to the Taliban for support. Our Afghanistan nation building effort will primary benefit the Taliban (who sponsored al Qaeda). We cannot change thousands of years of entrenched sharia law and culture.

Many Afghan government officials are currently on the U.S. payroll, plus they receive significant revenue from heroin production. 86 Afghan judges were recently brought up on formal charges of corruption, but this did not begin to deal with their pervasive political problems.

The primary goal of our U.S. declaration of war on Afghanistan was to bring Osama bin Laden to justice. Nearly a decade later, two administrations have failed that goal. For the military money and lives we have wasted, we could have purchased the entire nearly-useless impoverished nation of Afghanistan thirty times over. How can American voters allow this travesty to continue?

In stark contrast, America cannot find a few billion more dollars to keep our own public school teachers employed.

USA is spending more than twice what any other nation is on our very-bad, declining public education system, and yet, our 15-year-olds are ranked 35th in Math and 29th in Science worldwide - They cannot compete internationally, but many of them have become world-class experts at texting, social networking, video games, drugs, and pornography.

We are shamefully laying off many teachers, while the quality of our math and science education continues to plummet.

Do YOU want your children to live where we spend much more on prisons and war than on motivational FUN Edutainment?

Do you agree with our corrupt politicians who want to further cut education budgets, quality, and long-overdue innovations?

Our government education policies are badly influenced by cost-cutting education-innovation obstructionists. For coo coo insane-idiot legislators, high-school dropouts are GOOD, since it saves money for pork-barrel projects !Their only motivation is selfish reelection - TO HELL WITH OUR STUPID CHILDREN !

By reducing our investment in highly-motivating practical education, America has badly diminished our future innovative potential, and taken on a huge economic cradle-to-prison burden, which is clearly costing us far more than investing in our greatest natural resource - The Minds of our Children. Less money, wisely spent on Emerald-Eco-City-like motivating edutainment, will produce a healthier, more-prosperous, innovative society.

Without effective Scientific Problem Solving Skills, USA is now on a path toward
rapid decline in our nation’s ability to compete effectively in a global economy

Ethnocentric Americans want to think “We’re Number 1” but sadly our children have become almost illiterate
in Science and Math, when compared to all other civilized nations.

"They have ears but chose to not hear" – Psalm 115:6 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes" – Proverbs 12:15

High-quality science education is essential to the sustainable survival of every nation.

Higher taxes and more money for public education are NOT viable solutions. USA already spends more money for education than other nations do, but we get much-worse results. We NEED radical reinvention of America’s Science and Mathematics education system.

We need easy-to-understand high-profile science and math applications (like Man on the Moon was in the scientifically-progressive 1960’s). Our laggardly anti-innovation business-as-usual needs to integrate proven, cost-effective, state-of-the-art science into all future decision making.

The obsolete General Motors model of mediocre American manufacturing clearly leads to nothing less than bankrupt financial collapse. It is not part of an economic cycle. It is a badly-flawed, poorly-educated, crumbling, unsustainable, corporate-and-government mismanagement infrastructure that must immediately improve or die.

We need to STOP subsidizing unsustainable status quo, and move forward with off-the-shelf technology that was proven scientifically to be very cost-effective decades ago.

We need to teach and motivate advanced applications of the very-best of today’s science, to create a superior tomorrow. We must begin with high school science.

Minimum Requirements for High School Physics Students

     (1) In modern high-school Physics (presented in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12), students are required to conduct laboratory-and-field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using Critical Thinking Skills, and Scientific Problem Solving. However, very-few of America’s high school graduates meet these minimum requirements. They could not pass the final exam in most other countries.

    (2) The National Academy of Sciences defines “science” as "use of evidence to construct testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena, and the knowledge generated through this process." This vast body of ever-changing-and-increasing scientific knowledge is described by physical, mathematical, and conceptual models. The Internet Worldwide Web has accelerated rapid distribution of scientific knowledge. Other more-aggressive nations are using this recently-published knowledge for competitive advantage.

    (3) High-school Physics students from all backgrounds SHOULD study a variety of topics that include: forces; laws of motion; changes within physical systems; conservation of energy and momentum; thermodynamics (energy cannot be created or destroyed); characteristics and behavior of waves; atomic, nuclear, and QUANTUM PHYSICS.

They should be able to gather factual knowledge within a conceptual scientific framework, practice experimental design and interpretation, work collaboratively with colleagues, and develop their Powers of Observation and Critical Thinking Skills. "Good science is good observation" - Dr. Max Patel - Avatar (2009)

"There are three kinds of men. The ones that learn by readin'. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves." - Will Rogers

    (4) Scientific inquiry is the planned and deliberate investigation of the Universal Laws of Nature. Scientific methods of investigation can be experimental, descriptive, or comparative. The investigative method(s) used should be appropriate to the question(s) being asked or the problem(s) that need to be solved.

A scientific system is a collection of processes, structures, and cycles that interact in simple linear or apparently-chaotic complex ways. All systems have basic properties that can be described mathematically in terms of Space, Time, Energy, and Matter interactions. The most-complex non-linear interacting physical systems (like weather and climate) can be at-least-partially described with modern Chaos Theory, where starting-state model assumptions and ongoing changes are critical to the predicted outcomes.

Change and constancy occur in systems as patterns. They can be observed, measured, and modeled. These patterns help scientists make predictions that can be tested with scientific methods. High-school Physics students should be able to analyze a system in terms of its components, how these components relate to each other, contribute to the whole, and to the external environment and other systems that patterns interact with.

    (5) Students should learn that some questions are outside the realm of science, because they deal with phenomena that are not scientifically testable, such as life after death.

Scientists and philosophers can use their accumulated wisdom and reasoning ability to SPECULATE about such things, without being able to PROVE their personal positions to others with absolute scientific certainty.

“PROVE ALL THINGS; hold fast that which is good.” - 1 Thessalonians 5: 21, 22

Students should learn WHY they believe what they believe (science or speculation). "Children must be taught HOW to think, not what to think." - Margaret Mead

Commercial television advertisements, media bias, and the Internet contain colossal lies. Students must Learn to Discern true science from speculation and intentional deception.

Open-minded scientists cannot look at the physical evidence from the Hubble telescope, or a microscope, without having respect for the majesty of the timeless creator of space and time. Conversely, no spiritual person can deny the Universal Laws of Nature. "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." – Albert Einstein

In America, public school is not the place to teach religion. The U.S. Constitution First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”

We have freedom of religion, but we cannot use public schools to impose any personal unscientific speculative opinion on others. Public schools can however teach unbiased courses comparing various religious beliefs, using scientific methods and statistical mathematics about speculative subjective opinions.

For example, you CAN teach: “95% of Americans say they believe in some form of God.” “Our money says: ‘In God We Trust’.” “The first sentence of the July 4, 1776 U.S. Declaration of Independence says that it is based on ‘the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God’.” All of these evidence-based statements are scientifically correct.

However, using a public school to teach that the ONLY path to God is one particular religion violates the First Amendment, and it is ethnocentric speculation, not measurable, testable, or provable Science.

Speculate all that you like at home or in church. Have valuable discussions about morality. BUT, do not attempt to impose your own religious speculation on students in public schools.

If you reject the U.S. First Amendment, you have the right to move to a different country. If you want to amend the U.S. Constitution, you have the right to try PEACEFULLY, but,
you will need widespread national majority support and at least a decade. Good luck!

Science and Social Ethics: Scientific decision making is a way of answering questions about the natural world around and within us. Students should be able to distinguish between scientific decision-making methods, versus ethical-and-social decisions that involve the application of scientific knowledge about the Universal Laws of Nature.

In a democracy, government decisions should be made based on majority opinion (which may be scientifically-or-ethically right or wrong, depending on common education or lack of it).

The 1970’s Standard Model of Particle Physics (as simplified for modern high school students)

When baby boomers went to high school and college, they were introduced to the basic structure of molecules (like H2O), atoms, electrons, protons, and neutrons. This model only attempted to explain Matter. It did not deal with sunshine, lighting the night with a flashlight (torch), how gravity works, orbital mechanics, etc.

Objects were thought to be made up of molecules, which were made up of atoms. Atoms were made up of electron shells around a nucleus. The nucleus was found to be made up of protons and neutrons. And now, we think that electrons are one of six kinds of leptons, and protons and neutrons are made up of combinations of quarks.

In 1905, Einstein explained that Mass and Energy are interchangeable, and now we have new theories of how and why.

Today’s high-school Physics now includes a lower level of Quantum Physics Conceptual Abstraction.

Today’s Standard Model of Particle Physics was developed in the 1970’s. It has ONLY taken four decades for our foot-dragging high-school textbooks to catch up to 1970’s Physics. Gak! Surprisingly, high school Quantum Physics can now be summarized with a new vocabulary in only a few simple paragraphs (without using calculus):
Space, Time, Matter and Energy - What else can there be? Quantities of these fundamental concepts can be scientifically measured in Meters(m), Seconds(s), Kilograms(kg) and Electron Volts (eV), respectively using International System (Système Internationale - SI) "metric system" standard measurements (used consistently around the world, EXCEPT in the USA).

U.S. President Richard Nixon called for the conversion of America to SI by 1980. (He also lied when he said “I am not a crook” and when he promised “energy independence” – the end of imported foreign oil.) Change without strong motivation often fails.

Nixon's U.S. Metric Conversion Act of 1975 established a national policy of planning for, and coordinating, America’s conversion to the SI metric system of measurements. Guess what has still NOT happened - nearly four decades later.

It is rare for politicians’ goals to be met. “W.I.N. – Whip Inflation Now” “Read my lips – No new taxes.” “My administration will end earmarks.” “This stimulus package will reduce unemployment to only 8%.” “I know how to get bin Laden.”

If you always bet that all politician’s promises will be broken, you will win the bet more times than you lose.

“Offshore drilling is bad.” “Offshore drilling is good.” “Offshore drilling is bad.” “What is biofuel?” “Biofuels are good.” “Biofuels are bad.” argumentum ad nauseum

Stop the repulsive irrational rotational rhetoric and let me get off NOW! End False Promises.

Kennedy’s aggressive Man on the Moon Apollo Project was an exception. Eisenhower’s Interstate Highway System and Lincoln’s Transcontinental Railway were other notable national commitments that DID come true. We are long overdue for such a commitment to greatly-improved motivational modern state-of-the-art science and mathematics American education programs. The unfunded “No child left behind” mess was truly a criminal travesty.

What Is The Universe Made Of? The scientific answer is no longer what it once was half a century ago.

Scientific observations now suggest that the universe consists of MATTER (4% Atoms - 3.6% is in intergalactic gas - and 22% Dark Matter - black holes that organize galaxies), and ENERGY (74% Dark Energy - antigravity, which is accelerating the expansion of the entire universe). Dark Energy uniformly fills all space with a density of 10−29 grams per cubic centimeter, and is the source of the repulsive force that is causing our universe to inflate in size.

Stars, planets and everything on them are only a very-small fraction of our universe of Space, Time, Matter, and Energy.

Energy (e) is inter-convertible with (equal to) Matter (mass, m) by Einstein's 1905 equation e = mc2, where c is the speed of light: Energy is equal to mass times the speed of light squared: Energy and Mass are the same thing moving at different speeds.

Atomic energy merely converts Mass to Energy. The First Law of Thermodynamics explains that Energy can be converted from one form to another, but Energy cannot be created or destroyed. The total Energy of the entire universe has been constant since the theoretical Big Bang, when Space and Time were first woven together as a flexible fabric. It appears that some Energy was converted into Mass at the Big Bang (stars, black holes, galaxies, planets, and a whole lot of intergalactic gas).

Albert Einstein gave us unprecedented scientific insight into the Space / Time Nature of the Universe. In his later years, Einstein concluded scientifically that the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously as dimensions of the interwoven flexible fabric of Space and Time. In 1952, in his book Relativity, while discussing Minkowski's Space World interpretation of his own theory of Relativity, Einstein wrote: "Since there exists in this four dimensional (4D) structure (of 3D Space plus Time) no longer any sections which represent 'now' objectively, the concepts of 'happening' and 'becoming' are indeed not completely suspended, but yet complicated. It appears therefore more natural to think of physical reality as a four dimensional existence, instead of, as hitherto, the evolution of a three dimensional (3D) existence" (moving through Time as a linear sequence of events). Einstein's insight illuminates the ancient point of view that the timeless creator of the universe is the same yesterday, today and forever - The weaver of the fabric of Space AND Time may be omnipresent in it, not limited to a linear series of human events in Time.

Suppose you have an extremely-accurate reliable clock. What Time Of Day will it read 24-hours from now? The simple (flat Earth) answer is: "The same Time Of Day that it does right now." A better answer might begin with a question: "Where is the clock relative to me? Is it moving toward me, or away from me? How fast?" Our current GPS satellite clocks are exactly the same as the ones on Earth, but, they do NOT advance at exactly the same rate as on Earth, because they are moving at orbital velocity, and have to be reset everyday to remain in sync, so hand-held GPS navigation systems will work properly.

Images from the Hubble telescope can look into the distant past, roughly 13.7 billion years ago. Since 1905, Einstein knew that
Time Is Relative. Many people do not understand the Space / Time Continuum to this very day. (Some don't believe in evolution.)

Max Planck – The Father of Quantum Theory – Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918
    – Close Associate of Albert Einstein – Max Planck’s “photon” theory inspired Albert Einstein's 1905 e = mc2

“As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most-clear-headed science, to the study of Matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no Matter as such. All Matter originates and exists only by virtue of a Force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and holds this most-minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this Force the existence of a Conscious and Intelligent Mind. This mind is the matrix of all Matter.”
    – “The Nature of Matter” 1944

“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard Matter as derivative from consciousness. … Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness.” – “The Observer” 1931

“Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words:Ye Must Have Faith. It is a quality which the scientist cannot dispense with.”
    – “Where Is Science Going?” 1932

The primacy of consciousness features prominently in the written works of Bergson, Berkeley, Descartes, Kant, Leibniz, and Schopenhauer. Our human perception of the universe revolves around the way our subjective experience, which we call “Universal Consciousness”, relates to the physical nature of the real world. Perception is more important than reality.

“We are what we imagine. All that we will become begins with our imagination.
With our images we make the world.”
    – Buddha 3,000 years ago

Quantum Physics - The Standard Model (as taught in other nation's high-school Physics classes)

The Standard Model of Particle Physics describes the entire Universe in terms of Matter (fermions – firm things) and Forces (called bosons, which can act at a distance, like gravity). Two fermions (such as two people) cannot occupy the same space at the same time. However, two-or-more bosons (like magnetism, light and gravity) can occupy the same space and time, and act on a fermion simultaneously – You can see an apple fall to Earth – light plus gravity acting on the apple at the exact same time.

If you cross the streams of two garden hoses, the H2O fermion molecules interact and push each other away. In contrast,
if you cross two bright spotlights or laser boson beams, they do NOT interact or interfere with each other in any way.

Force bosons are related to fundamental qualities of Physics. Force can be expressed in terms of these fundamental qualities such as: Mass times Acceleration ( kg x m / s2 ), or as: Change of Momentum per unit of Time ( (kg x m / s) / s ).

(The yellow items will be on your 9th-grade Physics final exam - chuckle)

The Standard Model now describes approximately 200 particles in The Particle Zoo and their interactions, using 17 fundamental building-block particles, all of which are either Fermions or Bosons:

6 Quarks (fermions named: up, down, strange, charm, top and bottom),

6 Leptons (fermions named: electron, electron neutrino, muon, muon neutrino, tau and tau neutrino),

    4 Force-Carrying Boson particles (graviton - gravity, photon - electromagnetism, gluon - strong, and w & z bosons - weak),

and the elusive hypothetical Higgs Boson, which seems to determine mass, and is currently being searched for at the 17-mile-circumference CERN Large Hadron Collider - The world's largest science experiment.

These 17 building block particles are measured on Planck's Scale, about 20 orders of magnitude smaller than a proton (1 / 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 smaller than a proton in the nucleus of an atom - To say the least, not very easy to see)

Mass and Energy Superstring Theory Particle Harmonics

Dark Energy (Antigravity - 74% of the universe) is probably some type of as-yet-unexplained boson force, (perhaps related to the theoretical Higgs boson somehow?) but scientists haven’t got a clue how it works (yet). We can only scientifically observe (since 1998) its effect of causing the inflationary expansion of our universe to mysteriously accelerate. We can scientifically measure and predict what Dark Energy does, but we cannot use it pragmatically - the way we use electromagnetism to cost-effectively generate electricity and make electric motors turn.

Will we use Dark Energy to travel to other planets? The answer is currently nothing but science fiction fanciful speculation – not yet measurable / testable / provable science. Science fiction is inspirational entertainment. We now have 1960’s Star-Trek-style flip phones, etc. But, science says that Star Trek “transporters” & “warp engines” will be very-difficult to build.

“Impossibility is a figment of a weak imagination.” – Walt Disney – Scientists may be skeptical, but Never Say Never.
Our world very-much needs millions more scientific Imagineers. “It's kind of fun to do the impossible.” – Walt Disney

Imagination and problem-solving ability are both greatly enhanced with scientific knowledge
Wisdom and vision make difficult problems easier to solve, and impossible ones more feasible

Virulent ignorance, weak imagination and conservative status-quo obstructions make many things impossible

Unlike the Force-carrying particles of Physics, the Matter particles have associated Antimatter particles, such as the Antielectron (also called Positron) and Antiquarks.

Science fiction Antimatter engines might be feasible, only IF, we can find a way to contain something that instantaneously annihilates all matter that it comes in contact with, (which is not so very easy to do.)

There are four known Forces of Physics (1. Electromagnetism, 2. Gravity, 3. Subatomic Strong and 4. Subatomic Weak Force). Each one is mediated by a fundamental "quantum" boson particle (known as carrier particles). Two of these Forces (Weak and Strong) are only seen in atomic nuclei or other subatomic particles. Aside from Gravity, all other macroscopically observable forces - such as Friction and Pressure, as well as Electrical and Magnetic interactions - are due to Electromagnetic Force, which is carried by Photon bosons, as explained by Einstein in 1905, leading to his e = mc2.

Subatomic Physics is not just simple electrons, protons and neutrons any more, as it once was in the 1960’s.

Einstein explained that “you do not fully understand any topic until you can explain it to a six-year-old child.” To be competitive in today’s world of high-speed international scientific advancement, 9th-grade Physics students should be familiar with all of the above paragraphs and vocabulary. Are you? Are your children? Are their high school teachers?

The fundamental basics of The Standard Model are only a few short paragraphs, but even so, American science and mathematics education lags far behind most of the rest of today’s civilized world. Very-few U.S. high school graduates could pass a 9th grade Physics test on the above simple paragraphs. American parents say "It's not important to MY job.
Why should I care if my children haven't a clue about modern science or math that I never understood anyway?"

Consider This: Micro and nano electronics are rapidly changing our world THIS year. They did not exist when Baby Boomers went to college. Quantum Physics will be critical to future technology advances. Nano-materials, like carbon nanotubes and graphene have already shown great promise in the laboratory. They may very soon replace steel, titanium, gold, diamonds, copper, display-screen technology, advanced batteries, nanobot bloodstream medical treatment technology, etc. Will your children be conversant in 21st century technology, based on The Standard Model of Particle Physics? Or will they just vegetate on a couch, play video games and socially network themselves into unproductive useless oblivion? Do you want your posterity to live on unsustainable food stamps, or have a comfortable paycheck - contributing to the solution of the world's problems.

American Education Decline - Job Losses, Foreclosures, Bankruptcy and Loss Of Competitive Advantage

For decades, the USA has been in a science nose dive toward complete uncompetitive scientific problem-solving oblivion. Entire generations have grown up not even knowing what they do not know - compared to the rest of the civilized world.

Do YOU care? Should your children? Should their teachers? The best sustainable future jobs will require improved Science and Math skills. We are NOT going to return to the "good old days" when 42% of Americans were unscientific farmers.

Should America continue to give our jobs, money and scientific problem-solving ability to overseas competitors (that we must currently borrow money from to pay for our outrageous, irrational, immediate-gratification, short-sighted, generational warfare deficit spending) ? ? ?

The Great American Recession of 2008 and beyond is NOT part of a simple economic cycle. It is a direct measure of the rapid decline of our crumbling technology infrastructure, unscientific, unsustainable, deadly-dirty-energy policies, and poor scientific problem-solving education. Recovery to “the good old days” of full employment is NOT possible without a Radical Reinvention of American Scientific LEADERSHIP. In contrast, we are trailing-edge followers, importing our technology innovations and energy from better-educated insightful overseas nations.

The only way to maintain national economic stability is Continual Progressive Innovation, NOT ongoing unsustainable decline of fundamental scientific-problem-solving education. Stability demands constant change. Advancement demands even faster change. Unscientific dummies are a burden to society, NOT the future problem solvers that we desperately need.

Status-quo, conservative-obstructionist, greedy-profiteering short-sighted politicians and business-as-usual (with rapidly-declining science education) is quite simply societal SUICIDAL. Science education is a 21st century life-or-death struggle.

Superior Education Costs Much LESS Than The Total Cost Of Poor Education

Good education is absolutely NOT an added expense (requiring more taxes). The Emerald-Green Edutainment Lighthouse will cost FAR LESS per student than what America is currently spending on bad-dropout education, crime and prisons. Our ecocity schools will be built from scratch on proven scientific edutainment principles. We will NOT imitate USA failure.

Education quality must NOT be allowed to decline to the point that it must be force-fed to unwilling children. The INITIATIVE for problem-solving creative knowledge acquisition must be internal inside the apprentice. We cannot "teach" creative genius, but excellent mentors like Plato showed us HOW to enable its growth.

“Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and NOT as a hard duty.” - Albert Einstein

Most high-school dropouts would love a free trip to Disney World EPCOT Center. They would probably learn something interesting, and perhaps be motivated by the experience. Although aging EPCOT is still inspirational and fun, it has rapidly fallen far behind state-of-the-art, and EPCOT has NO continuing edutainment path for those that it inspires for only one day.

Emerald Eco-City will be far-more advanced and interesting than any Disney Corporation facility today. Hundreds of thousands of motivated children will get to live in our ecocity 365. Students will come for internships from all around the world, and return home with pragmatic knowledge, motivation, and a collaborative path for "Lifelong Learning in Harmony with Nature."

Curiosity is cultivated by asking profound questions (as Plato did 2400 years ago) Plato Encouraged and Enabled Creativity, NOT by teaching the obsolete, ineffective business-as-usual answers to multiple-choice standardized tests. The ineffective incentives that conventional schools give to American teachers are often downright Depressing and Counterproductive. Foolish cutbacks on public education (when we need to INCREASE innovation) are badly de-motivating our poor teachers.

We must radically reinvent our education institutions to inspire and teach tomorrow that which has not been discovered today. Obsolete hardcopy text books must be totally replaced by up-to-the-minute automated-update electronic learning systems.

Advanced 5X networked eBook interaction systems will be a critical part of Emerald Eco-City's Sustainability University. Near-real-time monitoring of student performance and the effectiveness of our rapidly-evolving state-of-the-art materials will facilitate the world's-fastest-feedback iterative-refinement education system ever conceived in human history. The critical lessons learned by our best-and-brightest mentors and innovators will rapidly be extended (and validated) for everyone.

It is our sincere hope that the prosperity of Emerald Eco-City’s Abundant Lifestyle in Harmony with Nature will become a shining inspiration and strong motivation for young people around the world to get a Good Education in Science and Living in Harmony with Nature, and to strive for a high-integrity, productive, rewarding, joyful life of Shared Prosperity.

In Japan, performance in school determines the level of education a student is offered. Competition for a finite number of top-quality university seats is very high. Many parents pay for weekend private tutoring to improve children's school performance.

Contrast that with the young Americans who dropout from short boring classes that are only offered 9 months out of the year.

In Emerald Eco-City, there will be no difference between formal school, day care, field trips to farm-and-theme-parks, and summer vacations. Interesting training-and-mentor programs will be available as electives 12 months of the year.

Instead of concentrating everyone's vacation during crowed summer months (when Emerald Eco-City will have many guests), our resident families can schedule as much vacation time as they want, whenever it is convenient to do so, without disrupting our superior formal on-demand education / enrichment / entertainment programs.

Bright students with an aggressive thirst for knowledge will NOT be held back by mediocre minds that happen to be the same age. Highly-customized, optimized learning experiences will be the NORM, not the exception for a wealthy few. All students should be challenged to perform their best, and rewarded for excellence, with opportunities that will be the envy of many fertile young minds around the world. The best-and-brightest mentors of highly-motivated students will be recognized. Their acquired teaching skills will be shared with other mentors, for continual iterative refinement and improvement.

All coursework will be available online, for those with special needs or superior self-study motivation (like Abraham Lincoln). In-home schooling will be an option, with family field trips readily available to everything in Emerald Eco-City, as needed. Our residents will have free access (no incremental usage fees) to everything from transportation to education to thrill rides.

We will make it easy for caring parents to emphasize topics of special interest, and also validate knowledge of fundamentals. Our entire education system will notice, and benefit from, best-and-brightest ideas from creative parents and educators.

Instead of driving curiosity and creativity out of our children, and forcing them all into an inferior least-common-denominator mold, Emerald Eco-City will encourage independent thinking and self-paced student-initiative-driven Knowledge Exploration, to prepare them to live a life of developing new inventions, with close personal guidance from mentors with a vested interest.

Our online education systems will include many simulation systems that encourage students to experiment with alternatives.

"Change Is The Law Of Life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." - John F. Kennedy

Before you can comprehend our approach to training tomorrow's Emerald-Green Leaders, you must first "unlearn" conventional scholastics from your own past. You probably spent a lot of mental-conditioning time sitting in a crowded classroom - like a bunch of baby birds, waiting on the Fountain of Obsolete Knowledge Flowing from the Front of the Forum, to provide disinterested students with some dirty old worms. Most American businesses repeat this centuries-old approach.

Words convey meaning that is based on our shared experiential understanding. When we say "FUN Edutainment" it is probably NOT the kind of annoying tedious classroom that most of today's adults grew up in yesteryear. It is likely that many of our readers have never experienced or imagined FUN Edutainment before. EPCOT was only a partial beginning.

Having demonstrated specifically “HOW” we can highly motivate our children with Zero Dropouts, we will offer our many Lessons Learned in our Emerald-Green Training Center of Tomorrow TM. We intend to be unique world leaders.

Teachers will always be learning from each other - Continually improving our Edutainment Motivated-Mentor Methodology.

Emerald Eco-City Holistic Education Will Be Entertaining and Just Plain FUN - More like a theme park than a sad classroom.

“I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.”
    – Walt Disney

Look into the eyes of children and see a reflection of yourself. Are they weary, or excited about the many gifts that you offer?

    Educational Zoo and Aquarium

    ZED and the Dolphins
    ZED Virtual Window

Aquarium Displays can be real marine animals, OR Zero Energy Design Virtual Window computer-generated realistic displays, with 3DV body-sensing technology that makes generated objects interact with observers, (at a lower operating cost than large real animals).

Small, safe-and-friendly Petting Zoos will be spread out in appropriate Emerald Eco-City residential park areas. Children will be encouraged to Sponsor and Help Nurture individual animals and plants as part of their “Eco-cation” about The Circle Of Life, and Living In Harmony With Nature.

Put down your video controller, stand up, develop your natural curiosity, and have FUN learning about the source of all life.
Touch and Feel Real Live Nature Today:

    Children learning about Nature

Solutions To Nature Deficit Disorder - Petting Zoo animals will be freely shared with everyone who cares. Personal pets will also be supported with partially-subsidized vet and kennel care for working families and those who must travel. No pet will ever be left alone for very long. Owners may view their pet 24 / 7 worldwide on kennel video cameras connected to the Internet.

No venomous, dangerous, aggressive or violent pets will be allowed. To facilitate communal cageless kennel care, all pets
must go through, and pass, consistent Eco-City Basic Training. No barking, yapping, disobedient, violent, aggressive
animals will be allowed to stay.

All permitted eco-pets will have required vaccinations, and will respond to community-standard commands. Public-area video monitors will ensure that all owners will always clean up after their pets.

Disobedient, un-trainable, unhealthy, dangerous pets will NOT be allowed to stay inside Emerald Eco-City. Breeding control will ensure that all pets are wanted and loved.

If families can no longer care for their eco-pet for any reason whatsoever, they will be returned to pet rescue facilities that
will guarantee them a good home, or placement in a Petting Zoo. All life is precious to those with Universal Consciousness.

    Trees for Kids

“Train a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6

Emerald Eco-City will provide far more specific, detailed "HOW TO's" than Al Gore was able to teach Taylor Francis.

Emerald Eco-City will be an enthusiastic, active participant in the new White House “Educate To Innovate” program -
to train the next generation of young world leaders in Advanced Science and Mathematics.

We support President Obama's improved primary and secondary education initiative, but there many specific future details
yet to be worked out. We know we can help find superior sustainable education solutions.

Please watch President Obama's Educate To Innovate video.

On January 6, 2010, President Obama announced growing support of expanded science and math education programs
    in America:

"We are here today to honor teachers and mentors . . . who are upholding their responsibility not just to the young people who they teach but to our country by inspiring and educating a new generation in math and science. But we're also here because this responsibility can't be theirs alone. All of us have a role to play in building an education system that is worthy of our children and ready to help us seize the opportunities and meet the challenges of the 21st century.

"Whether it's improving our health or harnessing clean energy, protecting our security or succeeding in the global economy, our future depends on reaffirming America's role as the world's engine of scientific discovery and technological innovation. And that leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today, especially in math, science, technology, and engineering.

"But despite the importance of education in these subjects, we have to admit we are right now being outpaced by our competitors. One assessment shows American 15-year-olds now ranked 21st in science and 25th in math when compared to their peers around the world. Think about that - 21st and 25th. That's not acceptable. And year after year the gap between the number of teachers we have and the number of teachers we need in these areas is widening. The shortfall is projected to climb past a quarter of a million teachers in the next five years - and that gap is most pronounced in predominately poor and minority schools.

"And meanwhile, other nations are stepping up - a fact that was plain to see when I visited Asia at the end of last year. The President of South Korea and I were having lunch, and I asked him, what's the biggest education challenge that you have? He told me his biggest challenge in education wasn't budget holes, it wasn't crumbling schools - it was that the parents were too demanding. (Laughter.) He's had to import thousands of foreign teachers because parents insisted on English language training in elementary school. The mayor of Shanghai, China - a city of over 20 million people - told me that even in such a large city, they had no problem recruiting teachers in whatever subject, but particularly math and science, because teaching is revered and the pay scales are comparable to professions like doctors.

"So make no mistake: Our future is on the line. The nation that out-educates us today is going to out-compete us tomorrow. To continue to cede our leadership in education is to cede our position in the world. That's not acceptable to me and I know it's not acceptable to any of you. And that's why my administration has set a clear goal: to move from the middle to the top of the pack in science and math education over the next decade.

"To reach this goal, we've paid particular attention to how we can better prepare and support, reward and retain, good teachers. So the Recovery Act included the largest investment in education by the federal government in history while preventing more than 300,000 teachers and school workers from being fired because of state budget shortfalls. The Department of Education will be announcing an additional $10 million in grants for innovative programs to train new teachers, whether a young person embarking on his or her first career, or a scientist or engineer starting his or her second.

"And under the outstanding leadership of Arne Duncan, we've launched a $4 billion Race to the Top fund, one of the largest investments in education reform in history. Through the Race to the Top, states are competing for funding - and producing the most innovative programs in science and math will be an advantage in this competition, as will allowing scientists and statisticians and engineers to more easily become teachers. We want states and school districts to start being more creative about how they can attract more science and math teachers.

"We're also pursuing reforms to better serve America's math and science teachers so that each and every one can be as effective as the educators that we honor today. So we're challenging states to raise standards, to use data to better inform decisions, to recruit and retain more good teachers, and to promote stronger curricula that encourage young people to not only learn the facts in a textbook, but to explore and discover the world around them.

"Now, as important as this will be, the success we seek is not going to be attained by government alone. And that's why I've challenged the scientific community to think of new and creative ways to engage young people in their fields. That's why we launched the "Educate to Innovate" campaign - a nationwide effort by citizens, non-for-profits, universities, and companies from across America to help us move to the top of the pack in math and science education.

"And today, we're expanding this campaign. Several new public-private partnerships are going to offer additional training to more than 100,000 teachers and prepare more than 10,000 new teachers in the next five years alone. And through the partnerships we are announcing today, support for the "Educate to Innovate" campaign has doubled to more than half a billion dollars in private funding - that's a figure that we only expect to grow.

"To help educators already in the classroom, Intel is launching a 10-year, $200 million campaign to train math and science teachers in all 50 states to better use new technologies and techniques in their lessons plans. PBS and the National Science Teachers Association will also create a new online platform so science and math teachers can share best practices and learn from one another.

"To bring more educators into the classroom, the National Math and Science Initiative is working with Texas Instruments and the Dell Foundation to prepare almost 5,000 new math and science teachers in the next five years - through a program that allows young people to earn teaching certificates and science degrees at the same time. And presidents from more than 75 of the largest public universities in the country have committed to produce thousands of additional science and math teachers at their institutions. And the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation is expanding with the help of several states and non-profits to place more math and science teachers in more high-need schools.

"And just because you aren't a teacher that doesn't mean you can't help educate our young people. We need to look no further than the mentors that we honor here today. I'm calling on all 200,000 scientists who work for the federal government to do their part in their communities: to speak at schools, to create hands-on learning opportunities through efforts like National Lab Day, and to help stoke that same curiosity in students which perhaps led them to pursue a career in science in the first place. NASA will also be launching an enrichment program to bring their scientists and engineers to students in the classroom and to bring students to NASA, so that they might experience that same sense of wonder and excitement while maybe learning a little bit at the same time.

"And, finally, as President, I'm going to try to do my part. We've held science-themed events like Astronomy Night here at the White House. That was very fun, by the way. (Laughter.) We're planning an annual science fair to honor the student winners of national science and technology competitions. Secretary Duncan and I will be working to promote the teaching profession to show young people that teaching is one of the best and most rewarding ways to serve our country. And we are of course recognizing the folks in this room with awards for excellence in teaching and mentoring.

"It's with these men and women that I'd like to conclude today. Because in the end, the work that you do - and the difference you make - are what all these reforms are all about. Whether it's showing students how to record the habits of a resident reptile, or teaching kids to test soil samples on a class trip to Costa Rica; whether it's helping young people from tough neighborhoods in Chicago to become "Junior Paleontologists," or creating a mentoring program that connects engineering students with girls and minorities, who are traditionally under served in the field - all of you are demonstrating why teaching and mentoring is so important, and why we have to support you, equip you, and send in some reinforcements for you.

"Every person in this room remembers a teacher or mentor that made a difference in their lives. Every person in this room remembers a moment in which an educator showed them something about the world - or something about themselves - that changed their lives. It could be a word of encouragement, a helping hand, a lesson that sparked a question, that ignited a passion, and ultimately may have propelled a career. And innovators . . . are made in those moments; scientists and engineers are made in those moments; doctors are made in those moments; teachers are made in those moments - those small interactions.

"So, yes, improving our schools is about training a new generation of workers and succeeding in new industries. But a good education - provided with the help of great teachers and mentors - is about something more. It's about instilling in a young person a love of learning and a sense of possibility in their own lives, an understanding of the world around them that will serve them no matter what they do. That's what we have to do as a nation. That's what all of you do every day. And that's what, at root, will lead to greater opportunities and brighter horizons for the next generation and for generations to come."
    - U.S. President Barack Obama

Zero Energy Design and Emerald Eco-City STRONGLY SUPPORT significantly improved SUSTAINABLE, well-paid science and math education In Harmony with Nature. Our role-model goal is to become world leaders as we begin to occupy our new city.

"An important scientific innovation rarely makes its way rapidly winning over and converting its opponents; it rarely happens that Saul becomes Paul. What does happen is that its opponents gradually die out, and that the growing generation is familiarized with the idea from the beginning." - Max Planck The Philosophy of Physics, 1936

Older generations resisted life-saving seat belts. Younger generations now mostly think seat belts are safe and normal.
Most Baby Boomers can NOT imagine a less-expensive world of Free-Fuel Zero Emissions, but Emerald Eco-City CAN.

It is sad but true: Major innovations often take 15+ years - one generation at a time - one death-or-retirement at a time.
Many scientists now believe that Earth may NOT have 15 years left to avoid the Unsustainable Suicide of Humanity.
Improving gas mileage 15%, or lowering greenhouse gas emissions 15% in 15 years may be Far Too Little, Far Too Late.

The future progress, or decline, of humanity depends on how well our children understand the Universal Laws of Nature, Humanity, State-Of-The-Art Modern Science, Mathematics, Technology, Imagineering, Sustainable Economics, and Holistic Systems Integration / Optimization. Emerald Eco-City brings the very best of these good concepts together in open competition, for continual international iterative refinement, and the Betterment of ALL Humanity.

The very-first fully-funded large-scale Emerald Eco-City will greatly advance our rate of Lifelong Learning In An Ever-Expanding Universe of Endless Possibilities. TM We MUST BE a Quantum Leap Forward, OR Humanity Will Commit 21ST Century Suicide.

Which do YOU want our posterity’s future to be? What legacy shall we leave them? Will YOU participate or procrastinate?

There will be thousands of well-paid, never-before, unprecedented, new types of meaningful, rewarding scientific, engineering, social and naturalist jobs in Emerald Eco-City. Our people should be proud of the jobs they have. No one should feel "underemployed." They should be happy on the job, and show their enthusiasm to everyone.

Some of the very-best types of jobs are ones where you get paid for doing something that others would like to do on their vacation. Every month, some of the best-and-brightest smiling young faces on Earth arrive at Walt Disney World to joyfully participate in a work / intern program. The international competition for these positions is very high.

I used to live 3 miles from Walt Disney World, and I went dancing with the Disney interns and many others every week.
They sometimes invited me to speak to the other international interns. I found their optimistic view of the future very inspiring. Contrast that with the dull U.S. public schools where a significant number of uninspired students dropout, and then
turn to a self-destructive life of crime. Which is a better role model for America's future?

Should a majority of our children grow up in government slums, OR in a place that is even happier than Walt Disney World?

"The thinking that created today's problems is insufficient to solve them." - Albert Einstein

Throwing more money at old-fashioned, ineffective "Fountain of knowledge flowing from the front of the forum"
classrooms IS NOT WORKING. More of the same can NOT solve our existing rapid education system decline.

Too many teachers obviously do not know "HOW" to teach in a way that motivates students. Every dropout proves the point.

Too many architects do NOT have a clue how to design an Emerald Green Building with ZERO Energy Bills.

Almost no politicians know how to spend taxpayer money wisely - Especially when it comes to declining U.S. education.

Just because the Status Quo has been doing things badly for a long time, does NOT mean they can make it better tomorrow.
In fact, most radical innovations come from OUTSIDE entrenched vested interests. Compare Steve Jobs with laggardly IBM.

I had zero formal architecture training when I designed my spectacular first Zero Energy Design Home in 1979.
Conventional thinking must be "unlearned" before anyone can innovate. I had no idea how to design a home badly,
which put me way ahead of those with a formal PhD in Architecture. For me, EVERYTHING was new and optimized.

Emerald Eco-City will be unique in the world in our ability to motivate, entertain, educate, and inspire our next generation of
innovation leaders to be creative, productive, prosperous, and to live an exciting valuable FUN Life in HARMONY with Nature.

In Disneyland, Walt trained all employees to be "Members of the Cast." . . . “Disneyland is the star, everything else is in the supporting role.” When a guest asks a person who is sweeping the street in Disneyland "Where is the rest room?" the cast member has a smiling role to play in helping guests have a joyful day. Street sweepers are often aspiring actors with some of the best speaking parts in Disney theme parks. Most people just think all Disney employees are pleasantly perky.
A number of national stars (like Steve Martin, etc.) started out with simple parts at Disney theme parks. Emerald Eco-City children will be encouraged to communicate their own enthusiasm with international guests. Some of them will surely become Emerald-Green International Superstars. "The apprentice should ultimately outperform the mentor."

Recognizing that "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players" is just as true today,
as when Shakespeare wrote "As You Like It" in 1599.Sam Walton trained his "associates" to constantly ask: "How may I help you?"

Every Emerald Eco-City employee who interacts with the public, will be taught to be MORE than just a "member of the cast."They will be trained as mentors and role models of the next generation, which will be part of their job performance goals.

They will also participate in Improv Comedy Courses, since discovering the humor in any good-or-bad situation is one of the most powerful ways to bring about much needed laughter, followed by meaningful innovation. If you can show a student or a guest a practical solution to an age-old social-or-technical problem, and get them to laugh with you at their own behavior, then that can be one of the most memorable learning experiences of all. Imagine one future day when a guest says to you: "Can you imagine how stupid we once were when we burned fossil fuels?" (Chuckle) We greatly admire Scott Adams.

Emerald Eco-City will provide hundreds of thousands of innovative new well-paid jobs with excellent benefits. Our associates should: (1) Be proud of the good job they have, and (2) Recognize that they may very well become a role model for a child of the future. Happy people who are pleased with their situation in life stand out in a gloomy world.

Walmart "How may I help you?" associates focus on adult customers. Emerald Eco-City members of the cast, mentors and role models will focus on our most valuable natural resource - the mental images conveyed to our children (and guests).

Unlike the rest of American education, our realistic goal is ZERO DROPOUTS - Each dropout costs our nation far too much. Uninspired dropouts will not be welcome in Emerald Eco-City. We will have finite space for people who see our great value, and share our common desire for "Lifelong learning in an ever expanding universe of endless possibilities." TM

The cost of the Emerald Eco-City investment in our next generation's safe, exciting, FUN FUTURE will be returned back to us many times over in much-higher productivity, innovative / valuable exports, improved mental and physical health of all, and a great reduction in the heavy burden of millions of modern uneducated deadbeat dropouts, who are living on very-expensive welfare programs, while being a deadly role model for a life of anti-social crime in government projects. Some misguided politicians want to perpetuate that terrible trend, but WE WILL NOT!

An average American public school teacher makes roughly $51K (less than a $65K average college graduate). With the huge increase in federal government employees in 2009 / 10, federal worker average salary rose to $71K. 19% make over $100K. Government employees now owe over $3 TRILLION in unpaid back taxes, including many in the Obama administration (who had broken tax laws BEFORE they were appointed). Even Federal Tax Court employees are in violation of federal tax laws - How coo coo "funny" (outrageous) is that !

In the long run, is a GOOD mentor / role model worth more-or-less than a mediocre federal employee to America's future?

Good Emerald Eco-City mentors need to be paid MORE THAN TWICE conventional non-learning brain-dead teacher salaries. BUT, we will also expect much more from them. They will spend at least 20% of their time in ongoing advanced technology / methodology studies, and “Train the Trainer” programs. Daily life for mentors will be a continuous Radical Sabbatical. Business-as-usual will be continuous iterative refinement, with occasional enlightening methodology breakthroughs.

All of our well-paid mentors will be active participants in our never-ending integrated, optimized “Harmony with Nature” Research and Rapid-Development Programs. Platonic skepticism, critical thinking skills, powers of observation, and endless curiosity will be strongly encouraged. Their students should want to follow their FUN leadership.

Materials that our mentors create-and-integrate will be published on the Internet for peer review and proactive solicitation of international constructive suggestions.

“Our heritage and ideals, our code and standards - the things we live by and teach our children -
are preserved or diminished by how freely we exchange ideas and feelings.”
    - Walt Disney

We will NOT encourage deadbeat teachers of yesterday’s failed policies to forever quietly repeat obsolete 5-year-old course materials. Dropouts will be a measure of failure, and the need for intensified mentor training. Students and teachers must believe that the respected job of Enabling Future-Leader Creativity IS FUN ! ! !

We want all of our next generation to wake up every morning enthusiastic about what FUN things they will learn each day. There should be very little difference between being in the World’s Best Emerald Green School and an entertaining visit to Walt Disney World EPCOT Center, except that growing up in Emerald Eco-City is a 365 exciting experience.

Imagine our children meeting new international friends on the Internet, and then showing them around when they come visit our Eco-City. Our children will take pleasure in being "lucky" leaders, and want to learn even more about their home. At an early age, they will see and feel the pride and joy of lifelong learning leadership, which we hope will provide powerful creative motivation.

Our Emerald Green Academics will be more entertaining than violent video games, or watching televised commercials from greedy product profiteers. Our mentors will compete to captivate and motivate the fertile minds of the most innovative- generation in human history.

All of our high-school teachers and students will be trained with our Zero Energy Design® Basic Beginner Physics Toolkit. Our FUN solar, wind, and energy efficiency experiments will give all of our students an intuitive feel for Emerald Green Energy.

Every Emerald Eco-City resident will be given the optional opportunity to lead local-and-Internet study groups, and to participate in creative think tanks, in the areas of their own personal interest and professional expertise.

Every day we must continually choose to do what is right, OR what is easy

"If you choose the quick and easy path . . . you will become an AGENT OF EVIL" - Yoda

Socrates suggested that "people with knowledge will naturally do what is right" while ignorant people do what is easy. If evil doers become truly aware of the consequences of their actions, they will stop doing bad things. Socrates correlated knowledge with virtue, and he equated virtue with happiness. An intelligent person understands what is right, lives a good life, and is therefore happy and appreciated by posterity. They avoid the dark side of evil.

Zero Energy Design respects these ethical thoughts that have been proven correct throughout the ancient ages of humanity.

Our realistic Emerald Eco-City goal is to use FUN Edutainment to enjoyably inform multitudes of open minds about the difference between what is right, and what is easy – to document the sad consequences of unsustainable behavior, and the many virtuous and happy benefits of living a good lifestyle in harmony with Nature.

Non-learning entities habitually do what is wrong, and are often unhappy, unproductive, and unappreciated. They obviously lack knowledge of the Universal Laws of Nature. They are clueless about cause and effect.

It is important that we transfer knowledge about the difference between good and evil to our offspring at an early age, BEFORE they establish unsustainable lifestyle habits - sadly imitating what is easy and commonly done by the mediocre majority.

For example: It is much easier to teach children about smoking health hazards than it is to cure deadly lung cancer AFTER the fact. BUT, if a child’s parents or peers smoke ANYTHING, it is much harder to educate them about the Scientific Truth.

“Do as I say, not as I do” is the most obvious form of duplicitous hypocrisy. Should all of our learning be by bad examples?

“The world will not change if we don't change. . . . We must BE the change we wish to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi

So it is with all of the many stupid things that the myopic majority of ignorant people are doing today. Scientific knowledge about the predictable is essential to our survival. BUT, new knowledge about Nature must be accompanied with a new way
of happy harmonious living. Anything less is suicidal self-contradictory GREENWASH.

To accomplish our challenging goals, we must somehow learn how to offer Confrontational Constructive Criticism in an entertaining way that is perceived as valuable by the receivers of our message. We believe that Walt Disney’s 1966 vision of his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow demonstration project was an inspirational starting point (that has yet to be fulfilled). Walt was an outstanding visionary who understood how use joyful entertainment to educate.

Through superior continual Emerald Green Eco-Innovation, Zero Energy Design® hopes to make what is right: Easy, Pervasive, and Much-Lower-Cost than today’s Unsustainable Suicidal Behavior.

With all of the advanced technology found in Emerald Eco-City, no other place in the world will be so exciting.

Our trillion-dollar successes will surely be many times better than Walt Disney World has ever been.

We will build on Walt’s wonderful 1966 creative imagination, and we will avoid the modern Disney Corporation's
major mistakes since their founding father died.

Mature mentors must motivate children toward lifelong learning with joyful edutainment
    But, we must also

“I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let THEM lead the way.
Show them all the beauty they possess inside.”
    - Whitney Houston

John Denver “Rhymes and Reasons” 1969

“Though the city starts to crumble and the towers fail around us
fear that is within, you know that seems to never end,
the sun is slowly fading and it's colder than the sea.

And the dreams that have escaped you,
and the hope that you've forgotten - It is written:
From the desert to the mountains they shall lead us.

And you tell me that you need me now and you want to be my friend
by the hand and by the heart and they will comfort you and me.

And you wonder where we're going,
In their innocence and trusting, they will teach us to be free.

And it's you cannot accept it is here we must begin

For the children and the flowers, for my sisters and my brothers,
their laughter and their loveliness would clear a cloudy day.

Like the music of the mountains and the colors of the rainbow
And the song that I am singing is A PRAYER FOR NON-BELIEVERS
they're a promise of the future, and the blessing for today.

John Denver was born before I was, but I strongly remember the influence he had on my generation. I was fortunate to meet John and Annie (the great love of his life) at Robert Redford's Park City Utah Sundance Film Festival (where my airplane was hangared). John also loved to fly over the mountains in his private plane. Sadly, John died alone while Flying Like An Eagle.

I have always had deep respect for the powerful positive message of beauty and Love of Nature that John offered the world.

Where would you go today to find such a popular poet laureate, with great praise for the magnificent handiwork of our Creator?

John Denver's music and lyrics are unfamiliar to today's young people. They have been replaced by arrogant greedy gangsters,
and selfish shortsighted corporations that corrupt our evil Congress, with an unsustainable suicidal path toward self extinction.

In 1969, John Denver foresaw 9/11's unsustainable man-made towers falling around us. Like Walt Disney, John knew that our top priority was to solve the many well-known problems of our poorly-planned and badly-mismanaged megacities, which will soon cause them to flood and crumble (for many different predictable reasons).

John anticipated the catastrophe of fools trying to "tear the mountains down" with today's out-of-control mountain-top coal mining: "More people, more scars upon the land." He wrote this when Earth's population was about 3 billion less than today.

John foresaw the great tragedy of today's Nature Deficit Disorder. John Denver was somewhat like Johnny Appleseed, who traveled the American West, teaching prairie pioneers to plant fruit trees for their precious future grandchildren, but his popular positive message of living in harmony with Nature has been drowned out by the worst kind of modern suicidal sinister evil.

John Denver respected and supported the uphill battle toward sustainable living by Armory Lovins' Rocky Mountain Institute (and others like Zero Energy Design).

John loved the brilliant colors of a rainbow in the mist surrounding a crystal-clear mountain waterfall. He laid his head down in a sleeping bag on the top of a Rocky Mountain, surrounded by good friends during predictable meteor showers, and was deeply inspired when he literally saw it "Rainin' Fire In The Sky."

How many of our young generation today have experienced such a Rocky Mountain High, WITHOUT DRUGS?

John Denver was not a perfect role model. He did make mistakes, for which he suffered in silence. Alcoholism was one mistake that led to the loss of Annie, shortly before his own death. Drinking contributed to his private airplane tragedy that ended his life far too soon. BUT, history remembers John kindly for all of the joyful-and-environmental contributions that he gave to us all.

It has been said that there are only about three popular songs that are frequently played at happy wedding celebrations: Wagner's Wedding March is one, and the poet John Denver wrote the other two for the great love of his life.

After spending time with Jacques Cousteau, John wrote "Calypso" and gave all of its significant sales proceeds to The Cousteau Society. John's song drew worldwide attention to how humans are destroying our source of life in the sea.

In today's world of over fishing, slaughtering intelligent dolphins and whales for food, increasing oil spills destroying marsh land nurseries, and man-made climate change killing coral reef habitats, we need the Calypso message more than ever before:

"To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean, to ride on the crest of a wild raging storm.
To work in the service of life and living, in search of the answers of questions unknown.
To be part of the movement and part of the growing, part of beginning to understand,

"Aye Calypso the places you've been to, the things that you've shown us, the stories you tell.
Aye Calypso, I sing to your spirit, the men who have served you so long and so well.

"Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you - To light up the darkness and show us the way.
For though we are strangers in your silent world - To live on the land we must learn from the sea.
To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell - Joyful and loving in letting it be."
